Rawai
We chose to stay in Rawai because there is a local seafood market that came highly recommended. When booking our hotel I wanted to make sure we were close to the beach so we could swim and lay out. Luckily I found a cute hotel with breakfast included that was literally right across the street from the beach. One thing we did not know is that Rawaii doesn’t really have a beach! The water just comes up to the pier with not much sand if any at all- it’s as if the ocean just sort of abruptly ends lol. Anyways- we still found plenty to do walking around Rawai.
By this time, I was really craving some wine and we happened to find this spot called Nikita’s that was right on the water. While they do have several normal table and chairs, we chose to eat at the short table with bean bag chairs- very casual. We watched the sunset and ate the most delicious Thai food. The owner was a lovely woman, very petite and almost fragile looking, but boy was she filled with personality! We watched as she chatted up every table, patiently waiting for her to come say hello to us. But she never did. Eventually we got up to pay and she met us at the register. We discussed the restuarant industry and the effects that covid had on it. We talked about travels and learned that she had traveled the world. We listened as she shared life lessons with us until her lips stopped moving and we said our goodbyes. Every time I think back on this trip I will think of her and the kindness she showed us. If you happen to be in the Rawai area, please stop by this lovely establishment.
We stayed at the Phuket Sea Resort for 2 nights. The hotel grounds were adorned with tropical trees and beautiful green foliage. More than 20 little bungalows lined 2 different pools where you could cool off. Breakfast was served on the second floor over the lobby and dawned a great view. We paid $36.42 USD per night to stay here (breakfast included) which was a little over our budget but totally worth it!
The seafood market was INCREDIBLE! It was a little intimidating at first because there are many stalls to choose from and honestly we didn’t really know what we wanted before we got there. We walked the street to get a good idea of what was available and then we got a game plan together. We chose the stall at the end of the street and the person running it was SO helpful and not pushy at all. They really made the process super easy and stress free. You can watch the video on YouTube HERE to see what we ordered and how it was prepared. After we picked our seafood and paid, we walked over to the nearest restaurant to have them cook it. So you pay for your raw seafood at the stall and then pay someone to cook it. It seems a little extra but it was a great experience!
Overall we had a nice stay in Rawai and would recommend it to anyone looking to have some delicious seafood and relax by a pool.
