10 Bangkok Bars You Need to Visit: From Cheap to Chic
1. Trok Silom
This unsuspecting bar boasts incredible views of the BTS skytrain which you can see if you’re willing to walk up 5 flights of stairs! But trust us- it’s worth it! Trok Silom is a no frills rooftop bar that offers delicious local Thai food and affordable drinks accompanied by local Thai musicians. You won’t find many tourists here, most of its guests are college age Thais.
Budget: $
Why We Love It: We LOVE the laid back atmosphere here paired with affordable beers and watching the BTS go by every few minutes is a bonus.
Pro Tips: They can accommodate larger groups which is why we always choose this spot when meeting friends for drinks.
2. TEP Bar
Located down a sketchy side street in the heart of Bangkok's Chinatown, TEP Bar is a MUST-visit, not only for their cocktails made with locally sourced ingredients but for the experience itself, which begins as soon as you make your way to the entrance. Don’t let the fact that they've crammed more seats than should fit in this space deter you — the impeccable service and carefully crafted cocktails make it worth it. This place tells a story not only through its cocktails made with local Thai spirits but also through its live Thai music. If there’s one cocktail bar you visit in Bangkok, let this one be it.
Budget: $$
Why We Love It: Not only are their cocktails thoughtfully delicious, but they also offer some local Thai spirits that we hadn’t seen before!
Pro Tips: If you get a seat that doesn’t suit you, just wait until the musicians take a break. People often tab out at this point and you can (quickly) ask your server if you can move to an open seat you prefer.
3. Lost in Thaislation
Budget: $$
Why We Love It: While finding this bar was a bit of a challenge, stepping inside felt like stepping through a portal to another world. Tucked down a sketchy alley (seems to be a theme here) and next to a 'girls bar,' you’re immediately transported to a place that feels like it’s straight out of Lost in Translation. The menu is fantastic, but don’t be fooled—it may look like a food menu, but it’s actually the drink menu! Inspired by local Thai dishes found on the same street as the bar, every cocktail is thoughtfully crafted and delicious. With only one bartender on duty, expect excellent service—but be patient when the place gets busy; he’s doing his best.
Pro Tips: If you're lucky, you might spot the owner’s cat, who’s the real star of the show and loves a good snack.
4. Teens of Thailand
Teens of Thailand has gained quite a following since being featured on Netflix’s Midnight Asia. This cozy gin bar specializes in—you guessed it—gin cocktails and some seriously good gin & tonics. The space was filled with what seemed to be regulars or friends of the staff, and while the service was friendly and attentive, we couldn’t help but feel a bit like outsiders. That said, if you’re a gin lover visiting Bangkok, it’s definitely worth a stop. Conveniently located in the same area as TEP Bar, it makes for the perfect nightcap after the excitement at TEP
Budget: $$
Why We Love It: Standout gin selection and quick service.
Pro Tips: Great intimate spot for date night gin cocktails.
5. BKK Social Club
Anyone who follows The World’s 50 Best Bars list will already know that BKK Social Club is at the top of its game. Featured multiple times on both the global and Asia’s Best Bars lists, it’s arguably the most popular cocktail bar in Bangkok.
Nestled within the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, BKK Social Club channels the vibrant energy of Buenos Aires through its lavish decor and creative cocktail menu. Signature drinks like the Café Tortoni and La Pampa highlight Argentinian influences in every sip.
Budget: $$$
Why We Love It: Condé Nast Traveler calls it “one of Bangkok’s most glamorous cocktail destinations,” and honestly—while we haven’t visited yet, it’s definitely on our list!
Pro Tips: Make a reservation in advance or arrive before open to try and get a spot.
6. Tribe Sky Beach Club
TRIBE Sky Beach Club, perched on the 5th floor of the EmSphere Mall, is a day-to-night destination open daily from 11 AM to 1 AM. This spot features a swim-up bar, which is perfect for cooling off during the day while enjoying panoramic city views.
While their cocktail list is extensive, it doesn’t quite compete with the more experimental bars in Bangkok. However, what TRIBE lacks in cocktail creativity, it makes up for with an impressive spirit selection, boasting popular high-end options like Clase Azul and Don Julio 1942—spirits more commonly associated with upscale nightclubs.
By day, it’s an excellent spot to relax poolside and sip on refreshing drinks. By night, as their Instagram suggests, it transforms into a vibrant party scene, making it a go-to for those looking to experience Bangkok’s buzzing nightlife.
Budget: $$$
Why We Love It: We haven't made it to TRIBE Sky Beach Club yet, but it's definitely high on our list! As a couple in our late 30s and early 40s (38 and 41, if you must know), we're big fans of day clubs where we can relax, take in some great views, and sip on a refreshing drink—especially before 11 PM, since we rarely stay out that late anymore.
Pro Tips: The club is sometimes rented out for private events so be sure to follow their Instagram accounts for daily updates on what’s happening.
7. #FindTheLockerRoom
Located in Bangkok's Thonglor area, #FindTheLockerRoom is a speakeasy that’s not exactly easy to find (that’s the point, right?). Once you track it down, you’ll have to figure out how to actually get inside. Down a dark hallway, with no signage in sight, you'll come upon what can only be described as an open closet filled with lockers. Then it’s up to you to figure out how to get in- JK we explain it in the pro tip!
The bar itself is small but feels spacious, and the bartender was quick to greet us and eager to walk us through the menu. We each had two cocktails here and already can’t wait to go back and try everything on the list. This place is an absolute must-visit for its creativity, atmosphere, and hidden charm!
Budget: $$
Why We Love It: Out of all the cocktail menus we've encountered in this city, this one was by far the most fun and innovative, with drinks inspired by different pop culture decades.
Pro Tips: When you reach the "closet" of lockers, turn right, and the wall will slide open. Head up the stairs, and you'll be greeted by a blast of ice-cold AC, which you'll definitely appreciate after navigating your way in!
8. Sugar Ray, You’ve Just Been Poisoned
Located in Bangkok’s Thong Lo district down a quiet side street, Sugar Ray You've Been Poisoned is a cocktail bar that immediately makes you feel like you’ve stumbled onto something special. As soon as we walked in, we knew that if we lived in Bangkok, this would quickly become our regular spot. The bar’s back wall is lined with an impressive selection of spirits you wouldn’t necessarily expect, and the bartenders not only take their craft seriously but clearly enjoy themselves too.
Their house cocktails are unique, but what really stood out to us was the fact that the menu wasn’t overwhelming—just the right amount of options. I’m a big fan of classic cocktails, and in Thailand, it’s often hit or miss. You’ll find bars that offer classic cocktails, but sometimes the ingredients are off, or the drink itself isn’t quite right—substitutions are made, or the measurements are just wrong. But this bar knows how to make a fantastic classic cocktail. In a nutshell, if you're craving a well-made martini, Old Fashioned, or Bee’s Knees, this is the place to be.
Budget: $$
Why We Love It: One thing we really appreciated was the menu, which lists the alcohol content of each drink. As people who love a stiff cocktail, we appreciate knowing the alcohol content, but we can also see this as a thoughtful touch for those who may prefer a lighter, easy-drinking cocktail.
Pro Tips: At the time of writing this blog post, the bar has closed😢. But their Instagram page suggests they will re open soon.
